about Christina Teskey

ETEC 590 is my 9th course in the Master of Educational Technology (MET) program at the University of British Columbia, and I will be finished the program in April 2007. Taking courses has been a way of life for me. My educational background includes a B.Ed. and B.Sc. (Pure Mathematics) from the University of Calgary (1989) and a University Certificate in Accounting from Athabasca University (2000).

Professionally, I have been teaching and instructing since 1989. I spent two years in Yellowknife, NT, teaching business education subjects, math and computers at the high school and junior high school levels. After moving to BC, I worked for two years as the Band Social Worker and Education Coordinator for a First Nations community. I have taught occasionally as a substitute teacher in the K-12 system, but for almost 12 years now I have been instructing at a community college. I have taught mainly in the Applied Business Technology (Office Administration) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) programs, but in 2005-6 I also taught a section of Math 190: Mathematics for Elementary School Teachers.

Personally, I enjoy being active with my husband and two children. We live on an acreage 15 km from a village in central BC and have many opportunities for outdoor activities. We particularly enjoy cross country skiing in the winter as we have access to world-class trails only a 10-minute drive from our house. I also enjoy reading (especially when it's not a textbook!) and music, and I have started to take guitar lessons this year.

Professionally and personally, the end of the MET program is coinciding with a crossroads in our lives. Our family is currently planning to spend a year abroad, and when we come back to Canada, we will open ourselves to new experiences. My hope is that my previous teaching background and my MET degree will lead me to an exciting new career!
